The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The speculation surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it sparked the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—qualities that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible if you're playing as a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously flexible, allowing players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can get ready for more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
