Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found numerous other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism made him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in 2020.
